An Old Goody

dsc036571

This is possibly the simplest cookie in the cookie book, and I'm going to assume that you've all made these (or at least eaten these) at one time or another.  Familiarity aside, these cookies are flat out addictive and deserve a post because I've made them 2 times in the past week (first time because we had no eggs when I needed a dessert fix, second time because I told M to take them all to work and far from me... but then I changed my mind).  There are a thousand versions of this beautiful pairing of peanut butter and chocolate, so if nothing else maybe this post will inspire you to dust off your own favorite spin on it.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Goodness No Bake Drop Cookies (since they have so many names... I added the goodness part)

Ingredients

  • 2 cup sugar

  • 2 T butter (I go light on the butter, they really don't need it and then you can eat like 4 more)

  • 3 heaping T of cocoa

  • pinch of salt

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1 tea vanilla

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter

  • 3 cups quick oats

Method

  • Combine first 5 ingredients in a pot over med-high heat.  Bring to a low boil while stirring continuously.  Boil for about a minute, remove from heat

  • Mix together with peanut butter, vanilla and oats

  • Drop onto wax paper and let cool.  Store in the fridge and enjoy with a tall glass of milk.  Mmmmmmmmmm.

Joe Cool

Today J had his 2 month doctors appointment.  This visit J had his dreaded (mostly by me) 2 month s-h-o-t-s', which I have now started calling immunizations so that I won't have to spell it until J is at least walking.

Dr. P said that J was doing great, 10lbs 6oz and 22.75", which means he is right on track at just over an ounce a day.  J even showed off his rolling over skills and head control.  Dr. P's one word of advice was to perhaps invest in some hair gel.  All fun and games until Dr. P left and 2 nurses arrived... a minute and one purple faced crying baby later, and all was done.  After a big lunch, nap and diaper change, J was pretty proud of his 2 snoopy band-aids.

Twice is Nice

My MIL just emailed some more photos of Sunday... I'm glad someone had the presence of mind to photograph more of J's first holiday.  Although, next year I can imagine there will be a lot more photo opportunities, or at least they'll be easier for me to contrive.

Entertaining J after lunch (J looks exactly like M to me in this picture)

M's parents surprised me with a birthday cake (Curious George, of course) to celebrate my 26th which was on the 8th, thank you!

Easter Sunday

For the love of Christ compels us,  because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.  And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and was raised again.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15

M, J and I celebrated Easter with M's family.  Sunday morning we drove down in time for church and then enjoyed Easter lunch.  J really made it all happen by sleeping like a pro Saturday night, we had previously not been too optimistic about making it by 9am.   With so many arms eager to hold J, M and I could actually sit down and enjoy the delicious spread M's mom had put together.   J showed off his play mat skills to everyone and a few hours (and several chocolate bunnies) later we started home in time for J to nap in the car.  As we were leaving I remembered to take some pictures, but at this point J was pretty tired so he (sort of) humored me while we snapped just this one.

The rest of the day J was M's buddy for watching the Masters.  I must admit I actually got into it this year too.  Pretty sure J was cheering for Tiger because Jake told him that was close to "leopard".

Copy Cat

dsc03608

Monday I started a campaign to ban all leopards from sleeping on our bed.  Maggie tends not to obey the "stay on the brown blanket" rule, and likes to go in and out several times during the night through the door leading outside in our room.  Jake always stays on the brown blanket and is quite content to sleep 12 hrs uninterrupted.  So, after 48 hrs of the "new rule" we had a very dejected Jake and a very unaffected Maggie (it's unaffected not uneffected.  I looked it up).  Above is a very happy Jake after the abolition of the "guest bed only" rule.

I know some of you probably are thinking that a leopard shouldn't nap so close to a baby.  I assure you it is never unsupervised, and honestly, we are confident that we could trust Jake to babysit before a lot of people and certainly before any other leopard.  If J cries, Jake calmly looks over as if to say, "yes, I know, they don't feed me enough either", and rolls over.  Pictured below is Jake's reassuring paw as proof.

As in the WB singing frog? Yeah, I figured only my sister will get that one right off.   Thought it was more suitable than a "I'm looking at the baby in the mirror" reference.

M and I now spend energies not devoted to eating or sleeping, but to rearranging the above mirror and singing frog to J's liking.   Also, all that tummy time has paid off, J is rolling over!  He goes tummy to back.  First time he did it I assumed he must have been on some sort of incline, but 5 times (and several witnesses) later- we count it.

8 weeks on Wednesday!

I also hope to blog about something else soon.  I hope to have new material shortly with Easter, a couple of runs we are doing, and my new "herb garden" aspirations.  That being said, I'm a little bias towards the J posts...

April Fail

dsc034681

A few nights ago J started sleeping in his crib in the nursery.  The above is my attempt at disassembling the pack n' play in our room.  M had it down to a small bag complete with handle in a matter of minutes.  Although even he couldn't fit the mobile.  So, ha.
